Best Black Friday Tech Deals

Best Black Friday Tech Deals Looking for discounted prices on phones, tablets, and other mobile gear and plans on Black Friday? Here's a quick primer. The biggest shopping weekend of the year is here, and sales abound. Retailers are not reserving their lowest prices for Black Friday alone. This year, sellers near and far are offering a range of deals between Wednesday and Monday, both at brick-and-mortar locations and online. Your best bet to scoring a deal is to do your research online first, maybe while digesting that heavy Thanksgiving dinner Thursday evening. Many retailers have published their Black Friday deals ahead of time to help you plan ahead. Here is a sampling of the deals you will find. Raspberry Pi Zero Lists For Just $5 If it wasn't impressive enough that Raspberry Pie has fit an entire computer into an area smaller than a credit card, it's offering the PC for just $5. As notebooks, smartphones, and tablets continue to get thinner and smaller, the prices for these devices still remain relatively high, but at Raspberry Pi, where driving down the cost of computer hardware remains important, the company has managed to offer a micro-computer for just $5. The Raspberry Pi Zero, which is made in Wales, is a full-fledged member of the Raspberry Pi family, and features the company's smallest ever form factor, measuring just 2.5-inches, by one-inch, by 0.20-inches. The computer features a Broadcom BCM2835 application processor, a 1GHz ARM11 core -- 40% faster than the Raspberry Pi 1 -- 512MB of LPDDR2 SDRAM and A micro-SD card slot, and a mini-HDMI socket for 1080p60 video output. On the operating system side, the Pi Zero runs Raspbian and a wide variety of appli...

FAA Task Force Recommends Drone Pilot Registration

FAA Task Force Recommends Drone Pilot Registration With drones becoming an increasingly common presence above our heads, an FAA task force is recommending a registration process for pilots. With  sales of drones  set to soar this holiday season, a US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)  drone task force  is offering a set of recommendations that will require pilots to register with the agency. The announcement came on November 21, just ahead of the holiday shopping season. The task force recommends registration for pilots  -- not individual drones -- and if the FAA accepts the task force recommendations, registration will be mandatory prior to the operation of any unmanned aircraft system (UAS) weighing more than half a pound. The recommendations also suggest that there be no fee for registering and that the registration should be Web-based. The requirement will apply to any UAS less than 55 pounds. Owners must be at least 13 years of age, although a parent or...
